Description:

This podcast episode is releasing during the US Memorial Day holiday weekend and therefore, I am going to give you a quick update on Career Pivot and the Repurpose Your Career Podcast and then I am going to rebroadcast the most impactful episode for me from 2021 which was How to Switch Industries from Executive Search Consultants Perspective with Glenn Zwieg.

I have reached an interesting point with Career Pivot and this podcast. Traffic to the Career Pivot website declined significantly during 2020 and 2021. However, the downloads for this podcast stayed pretty flat during that same period. In 2022, the monthly downloads for the podcast now are roughly equal to the number of visitors to the website, a little less than 10,000 per month. At one time the website received around 30,000 visitors per month. That changed dramatically during the pandemic.

The podcast is now steadily growing at a significant rate while website traffic is staying pretty flat.

Therefore, this podcast is getting most of my attention. Besides I like recording and producing this podcast as it is the greatest networking tool, I have ever had. I meet so many interesting people.

When I launched Career Pivot way back in 2012, it was a money-making operation. That is no longer true. Since we moved to Mexico in 2018, it has shifted to being a passion project for me. As long as it does not lose money, I am good with that. I like when it makes money because I can do some fun projects and invest in the podcast with the funds the business generates.

Earlier this year, I started publishing this podcast on YouTube not knowing whether it was worth my time. I now have 15 YouTube subscribers and will have to see what it does the rest of the year. Maybe I can be a YouTube influencer … NOT!

Some of that money I am making right now is paying my co-author, Susan Lahey, to help me with some advanced white papers.

Therefore, I ask you to share this podcast in whatever method you prefer. The more people who listen to the podcast, the more people we can help!

Given this is the US Memorial Day weekend, I thought I would rebroadcast the episode from 2021 that had the greatest impact on me. This was my discussion with Glenn Zweig. Glenn provides executive search and leadership advisory services in Egon Zehnder’s Digital, Tech-Enabled Services, and Healthcare practices. He is also the host of the podcast called The Art of Excellence where he interviews high-achieving people across all walks of life to find common threads of success.

I wanted Glenn on the show for 2 reasons. He has a deep understanding of the executive search process and I wanted his perspective on what is he looking for when candidates are switching industries. The second reason is he has a great podcast, The Art of Excellence, that is completely separate from what he does as an executive recruiter. Glenn suggests that you need to put yourself out there when pivoting industries and I want you to hear a bit of Glenn’s podcasting story.

A lot of the ideas I have around how to handle disruption came from this episode.

This episode is sponsored by Career Pivot. Check out the Career Pivot Community, and be sure to pick up my latest book, Repurpose Your Career: A Practical Guide for the 2nd Half of Life Third Edition.
