Description:

This is a continuation from episode 278 which I called Has Your Network Abandoned You? Let's Discuss How to Plan to Get it Back! I talked previously about how to identify who you need to network with and what was strategic networking. I want to discuss in this episode how to ease back into networking.

I was giving a webinar for AustinUp the other day and someone posed the question about pivoting from product marketing to product management. They were not having much luck. In order to make this kind of move, it will take a relationship to get you across and it is probably a relationship you do not have right now.

In episode 278, we discussed identifying who you need to network with, some of these people will be existing connections while others will be new connections. We will start with a focus on existing connections and building up the network muscles that have probably atrophied during the last couple of years.

I will once again give you some blog posts to read about active listening and a step-by-step process to ease back into networking.

Description:

In this week’s episode, I am speaking with AJ Harper, author of  Write a Must-Read: Craft a Book That Changes Lives--Including Your Own. If you have thought of writing a non-fiction book this is the book for you. I have already recommended this book to several people as it will make the task far less daunting and more importantly help you write a book that delivers.

Her bio is as follows:

AJ Harper is an editor and publishing strategist who helps authors write transformational books that enable them to build readership, grow their brand, and make a significant impact on the world. As a ghostwriter and as a developmental editor, she has worked with hundreds of authors, from newbies to New York Times bestselling authors with millions of books sold. AJ teaches her method in Top Three Book Workshop and the Must-Read Editing Workshop. She is the Head Writing Coach for Heroic Public Speaking, the premier speaker training program created by Michael and Amy Port. She is a writing partner to the business author, Mike Michalowicz. Together they’ve written nine books, including Profit First. AJ is the author of Write a Must-Read: Craft a Book That Changes Lives--Including Your Own. Connect with her at AJHarper.com.

I am pitched a lot of books for this podcast. I have turned down some prominent authors because I thought the books did not deliver on what they promised. I think they should have read this book as you will hear, AJ gives you a pretty easy system to follow to keep on track to write a book that delivers. That does not mean it is easy to do but it is an excellent system.

I am currently reading a similar book Find Your Red Thread: Make Your Big Ideas Irresistible by Tamsen Webster that I mention during the episode. It discusses a similar process to refine your ideas that I have found useful.

Description:

Many of you have lost connection with your network and community in the last 2 plus years. This could be your business community aging out on you, or losing contact with family and friends. You may have lost contact with religious organizations, social groups, and civic groups. For many, these are the people who pulled you along in your career and life. Now is the time to re-establish old connections and create new ones.

I wrote a post about a year ago called Has Your Network Aged Out and Abandoned You During the Pandemic?

If you are like me and are over the age of 50, it would not surprise anyone that your mentors, career champions, and colleagues who have supported you in your career are not available to you anymore. They may have retired, no longer be in a position of influence, or may have died during the pandemic.

I have also written about the power of community in the post Community – What Is The Value Of Belonging To One? Please check out that article.

It is your network and the communities that you have belonged to that brought your success up to this point. Now is the time to start to rebuild them.

I wrote a mega blog post five years ago called Strategic Networking Playbook – Who, How and When! In this episode, I will take you through this process to help you plan out your network. In a later episode, I will take you through what you should be doing now.

Description:

This podcast episode is being released during the US 4th of July holiday weekend. I am going to rebroadcast one of my favorite episodes from 2020 which was What is Your Mindset Right Now? Are You Ready to Change It? This is a discussion I had with my good friend, coach, and former therapist Diann Wingert. I think it is an excellent listen to begin the second half of 2022.

Diann Wingert has been on the podcast 3 times to discuss mindset issues and what triggers your brain. These episodes are some of the most downloaded in the history of the podcast.

This episode was the first where we discuss mindset issues and how to overcome them.

I have edited down the episode as I am working to make the episodes shorter.

This episode is sponsored by Career Pivot. Check out the Career Pivot Community, and be sure to pick up my latest book, Repurpose Your Career: A Practical Guide for the 2nd Half of Life Third Edition.
