Description:

This will be the last podcast episode of 2020 which for many of us has been one dumpster fire of a year. Therefore it is time to plan for 2021 and I have kicked off my annual podcast survey. If you would be to take the survey, I would be most appreciative.

I will be planning out the podcast schedule for 2021 during the month of December and the first half of January, and I would very much appreciate any feedback you can give me.

In this week's episode, I have Diann Wingert from Diann Wingert coaching. Diann is a former licensed therapist and now coaches entrepreneurs. Her tag list "My Jam" is helping others like me be successful in work and life. She also has The Driven Woman podcast.

I know Diann from the Smart Passive Income Pro online community where we both are members. I wanted to finish out the year discussing mindsets. We have all been thrown out of our comfort zones in the last 9 months and I thought this would be a good topic to discuss before the holidays.

The Career Pivot membership mastermind gets mentioned in the article, How to Build a Home Business Support Group, published on NextAvenue.org.

Description:

This will be a short and sweet episode. There will be show notes blog post on the Career Pivot website.

Given the explosion of COVID-19 cases in North America and Europe and the audience who listens to this podcast are largely over 50 years of age I am really concerned about what this next month will bring.

I feel very blessed that I live in the state of Jalisco in Mexico. A little over a week ago we came out of a 2 week lockdown where all businesses were closed on weekends and all businesses closed at 7 PM each weekday.

It has seemed to work as numbers are trending downward and it seems to have encouraged good behavior as it relates to mask-wearing and social distancing. From a personal perspective, this was relatively non-intrusive in most people's lives.

There will be no episode next Monday and I will kick off the annual podcast survey with the next regular episode on December 7th.

I want to wish everyone a very safe and happy thanksgiving from the Repurpose Your Career Podcast and Career Pivot.

Description:

This marks the 4th anniversary of this podcast. I started this podcast in late October of 2016 to support the launch of the 2nd edition of "Repurpose Your Career - A practical guide of the 2nd half of life" which was published in the spring of 2017. I never imagined to be doing this podcast 4 years later and a quarter of a million downloads.

I started 2020 like any other year with a set of guests that I thought would inform and inspire you. Of course, then COVID-19 hit us across the head like a 2 by 4 and I changed focus to topics that I thought you would find helpful in surviving and thriving through this pandemic.

I picked 7 episodes that I will play snippets from and I hope that you will go back and listen to again and again.

These episodes are as follows:

Description:

We normally travel back to Austin every six months to take care of things like renewing the car registration, picking up nutritional products, taking care of some medical stuff, and to do some shopping. We were unable to make the trip back in April when the car registration expired due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

These last few weeks looked like the best time to make a quick trip, take care of important business, and get back to Mexico.

I give you a day by day replay and some of my observations along the way.

Here is the beginning of Hannah's About page:

Hi, I’m Hannah Morgan, aka, Career Sherpa, a nationally recognized author, and speaker, and job search strategist.

What I love doing is helping people understand what actions they need to take to find a job faster. Job hunting is hard work but I follow the trends closely to help get you up and running.

I’ve had my share of unsatisfying jobs and have pivoted from legal assistant to telemarketing, to HR.

My positions in Human Resources, Outplacement Services, Workforce Development, and Career Services, equipped me with a 360 degree perspective on job search topics.

What I’ve learned is that in today’s job search, technology, strategy, and even resume deliverables are morphing rapidly, shifting the way people find and land jobs. The explosive reliance and relevance of social media and online visibility, in general, have radically changed the job search landscape. Your job search needs to be proactive, not reactive.

I think that says it all.

One of the benefits of doing this podcast is I get to speak with a lot of people who have a front-row seat in how companies are dealing with the pandemic from a hiring and career perspective.

I am organizing a whole series of panel discussions for the Career Pivot membership community and I will be playing the audio on this podcast.

Next week I bring in Gary O’Neal and David Hughen to give you the perspective from the companies side.

In future weeks, I will be speaking with a variety of resume writers, career coaches, and other career experts who are directly working with job seekers to get their perspective. I am working on a variety of formats so that my membership community gets their questions answered but also, you the listeners to this podcast gain perspective.

Perspective on what is really happening out there is really difficult to get right now as things are moving so fast and most of us are stuck at home.

Description:

Thom has authored twelve books on the power of business relationships, sales, networking, presentation skills, and entrepreneurship, and regularly speaks to corporate, law firm, and convention audiences. He sets the tone for better engagement at industry events as the opening keynote speaker or the Master of Ceremonies. The unique Conference Catalyst Program has become a “meeting planners” favorite in how it transforms the conference attendee experience.

As the host of the popular “Cool Things Entrepreneurs Do” podcast, Thom interviews business leaders, entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and others who possess an extra dose of the entrepreneurial spirit. The information compiled from these compelling interviews is shared with his clients, as he challenges people to be more engaged and enthusiastic in all their actions.

Thom earned the prestigious Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation in 2014. The Certified Speaking Professional designation, established in 1980, is the speaking industry’s international measure of professional platform skill. The CSP designation is conferred by the National Speakers Association (NSA) only on those speakers who have earned it by meeting strict qualifying criteria. The letters CSP following a speaker’s name identify that speaker as a speaking professional with a proven track record for understanding and delivering value from the platform.

In early March of 2020, Thom saw all of his business disappear.

Description:

Gene states it best in his LinkedIn About section:

The life of a contractor is not an easy one.

You’ve grown up in the construction industry and building is in your blood. This isn’t a job. This is who you are. You’re able to bring all your knowledge, experience, and passion for doing what you do best – build stuff. You build the structures that define our world today!

As you build, though, you realize that you need money. Sometimes you’ve got lots of money in the checking account and sometimes nothing.

I get it. I was shoveling out a feeder conveyor at my father’s gravel pit when I was 10 years old. I was helping him install kitchens and pour concrete when I was 17. I watched him struggle with cash flow his whole life.

I went to college to learn how to build mines and I did that for 40+ years. Once you start building, you’re addicted!

We are Eagle Managerial Bookkeeping. We’ll do your bookkeeping and help change your dreaded bookkeeping into a profit center! You’ll know where your money is and where it’s going.

We’ll set up your transactions into categories you understand. We’ll prepare monthly reports, so you know what’s going on. Then we’ll help you identify where there are opportunities. It’s bookkeeping on steroids! It'll be fun - I promise!

I'm an engineer with an MBA and over 40 years of experience designing, building and operating mines in the USA and Latin America (that’s my last mine in the picture above).

My team and I will help you get control of your cash flow by using the same tools and techniques I've used my whole career. You’ll be able to sleep at night without worrying whether you can meet your payroll. You’ll be confident that when you talk to your banker or tax-preparer because you have all the information they need to help you.
